Democratic Party Presidential Primary: March 3, 2020

Virginia Democrats will go to the polls on Tuesday, March 3, 2020, to select our candidate for President in the November 3, 2020, election.

Here is a SAMPLE BALLOT for the Democratic Primary.  Note there are fourteen names on this ballot.  Some of these individuals have announced their withdrawal from the race, however, these ballots were printed by Northumberland County in January because absentee voting started in mid-January.

CAUTION:

If you use this ballot, DO NOT PRINT IT ON WHITE OR YELLOW PAPER.  White and Yellow paper are used for official ballots, and, for official sample ballots.  DO NOT USE WHITE OR YELLOW PAPER.  We recommend you use BLUE paper.

The notice at the bottom of the ballot states “Read Both Sides of Ballot.”  The back side of the ballot is blank except for the Northumberland County seal; there is no election information on the back side.

WITHDRAWN CANDIDATES

Kevin Washington withdraws from Democratic Congressional race

We are disappointed to report that Kevin Washington has announced his withdrawal from the Democratic Party’s race for Congress from Virginia’s First Congressional District.

We received the following announcement from Mr. Washington.

Dear Chairs (First District Democratic Party chairs),
We have, with much deliberation, decided to suspend our campaign. I truly appreciate all of the support and consulting you have provided. Without the financial backing required to run a strong campaign, we cannot proceed. I look forward to working with you in the future. The fight for change and equality is not easy. I plan to be on the front lines of that fight until our ultimate goal is achieved. Please, feel free to contact me anytime.

We all should be concerned at Mr. Washington’s reason for withdrawing:  Money.  Running for office has become almost prohibitively expensive, leaving our elections open only to those with deep pockets or wealthy donors who can afford to run for office.  This fact is a threat to our Republic.

Mr. Washington’s withdrawal still leaves three excellent candidates who are competing for the Congressional seat held by Republican Rob Wittman.

Republicans mailing phony census letters: Alert your friends and neighbors, especially the elderly

2020 is time for the US census that occurs every ten years.  Soon, we will receive letters from the Census Bureau asking for household information.

HOWEVER, The Republican National Committee is sending  phony census letters that are an attempt to collect names and addresses, as well as raising funds for the RNC.  These phony letters are showing up in Michigan and likely will show up in other states.

Note the phony letter is titled “2020 Congressional District Census.”  This letter is a fund-raising letter for the RNC and for Trump.

Please warn your family, friends and neighbors — especially older folks and those who perhaps will not be able to discern the real from the fake.
