The second meeting of 2020 is shaping up to be an exciting one for Northumberland Democrats.

Authors Gwen Keene and David Cariens will discuss the divide in the Northern Neck between the ‘born here,’ and the ‘come here’.  In some areas, the gap reminds one of the Hatfield – McCoy division after the Civil War, without the guns.
Gwen has written several books, including one about the life and people of the Northern Neck.  This meeting will attempt to bridge the gap between the two groups.  Some of the discussion points will touch on the subject of race and racism, economic disparities, and social habits and dispositions.

The second part of the Meeting will feature reports from the NOCO Dem Committees and a Democratic candidate for Congress.

  • Joe Schlater will report on the status of legislation in the General Assembly.  Additionally, he will review the Primaries in March and June with dates and times.
  • Finally, we will hear from Qasim Rashid, who is running for the Democratic nomination for Congress from the Northern Neck.  He is one of four candidates running in the June Primary.  He will discuss his elections points and reasons to support his candidacy.
The Meeting will be held:
  • Thursday, February 20, 2020
  • 7 PM
  • at the Library in Heathsville, VA — 7204 Northumberland Hwy.
